Wendell Horace Moore Jr., born on September 18, 2001, is an American professional basketball player currently contributing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the National Basketball Association (NBA). His basketball journey includes a college basketball career with the Duke Blue Devils.
High School Career:
Moore's high school tenure unfolded at Cox Mill High School in Concord, North Carolina. Throughout his years, he exhibited exceptional skills and achievements. As a sophomore, he played a pivotal role in securing a 3A state title. During his junior year, Moore became the fastest player to reach 1,000 career points in Cabarrus County public school history, leading his team to a second consecutive 3A state title.
Recruiting:
On October 8, 2018, Wendell Moore announced his commitment to Duke University, choosing the Blue Devils over other notable institutions like North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, and Wake Forest. His recruitment rankings reflected his promising talent, earning him high ratings across various platforms.
College Career:
Moore made an impact during his college career with the Duke Blue Devils. He showcased his scoring prowess in notable games, contributing to victories. However, he faced challenges, including a broken hand that required surgery and a subsequent return to the court. As a freshman, he averaged 7.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. In his sophomore year, he improved his averages to 9.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Moore's junior year saw him named to the Second Team All-ACC and the All-Defensive Team.
On November 12, 2021, Moore achieved a significant milestone, recording a triple-double in a game. His stellar performance continued, and on April 2, 2022, he was honored with the Julius Erving Award.
Professional Career:
Wendell Moore entered the NBA draft in 2022 and was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the 26th overall pick. However, he was traded to the Houston Rockets and eventually found his place with the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for TyTy Washington Jr. and future second-round picks.
